Dear Member of Legislative Assembly,
As a citizen of ________, I am concerned about the government’s proposed cuts to the BC Ambulance Service.
Across the province, BC paramedics work tirelessly to ensure the health of BC residents and visitors. They provide invaluable service. However, the Service is already clearly underfunded and short-staffed, and is not able to keep pace with national standards. Specifically, because of a lack of paramedics and ambulances, BC is not able to meet national response time standards.
Given that, I think the government’s idea of taking even more ambulances off our roads and cutting more paramedics is taking us backward – not moving us forward.
Response times will only get worse because of this, and that means more British Columbians will be put at risk. And all so the government can save $5.2 million out of a health budget that is close to $16 billion – that is 3/100 of 1%.
Therefore, I formally ask that you put pressure on Premier Gordon Campbell and Health Minister Kevin Falcon to reconsider this decision – and further that they begin investigating ways to increase funding and staffing so that British Columbia can meet national response time standards.
I look forward to hearing back from you on this matter.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Your Name
